'Left and Leaving' is a 4-comic-a-day project I started after a girl I was
dating broke my heart. It's an effort to try and make sense of my thoughts, basically.

Left and Leaving updates every day. Or... uh... tries to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What the heck is this comic?

That's a good question, and I intend to answer it. If I didn't, it wouldn't be a very good FAQ though, huh? Anyway, Left and Leaving is a little pet project that I started up after my first girlfriend and I broke up in '08. It wasn't an easy thing to handle, and in my desperation to make sense of a broken heart and a listless feeling, I decided to try making comics. The premise is simple – I'll scribble out comics at some point in my day about stuff going on in my life. It may seem a little narcissistic, but, I never really intended for anyone else but me to read these things.

Why 4 comics a day?

I was inspired by an old friend of mine, Foom. He'd been getting wacky about a 'One comic per hour' project that a guy was doing over at Pictures for Sad Children, and after reading through the archives on a sunny January afternoon, I realized how cool of an idea it is. Though, I could never hope to do 24 little teeny weeny comics per day. So I settled on 4. Story of my life.

Why are some of the comics really sloppy?

I try to carry my little pad of paper around with me wherever I go. So if I'm hurrying off to do something, I'll maybe try to knock one out before I do that. So some of them are really sloppy.

Any artists you look up to?

Webcomic guys, mostly. My biggest inspiration on a daily basis is Scott C. of Double Fine Comics. He did the art for Psychonauts and proved to me that comic guys didn't need to be able to draw photorealistic muscles to make an entertaining, engaging comic. Also, you don't need strong lettering to write your own dialogue! Then there's Mike Krahulik, Dave Kelly, Charles Schulz and Bill Waterston. And countless people on the Internet.

Does your hair really look like that?

Yeah, unfortunately.

Shenanigans. Provide proof. That hair is ridiculous.

What do you draw the comic with?

Whatever I have laying around. For the first 50 comics, I used Sakura Microns, but now I bought a pack of Faber Castells to do my inking. Using India Ink sorta gives me the illusion that I'm a real artist – so it's kinda fun sometimes! Like dress-up, only, not as cool.

Can I show your comic to a friend or enemy?

As is stated on the bottom of the comics page, I'm 100% for anyone being stupid enough to want to use one of my comics for anything, as long as they're not making any money off of it. It's all protected under the Creative Commons, as well as copyright. If you do use something (and I've no idea why), could you do me a solid and just link people back here? Or mention my name? That'd be neat.

I'll be your girlfriend. I have lots of love to give.

Okay!

It's me, from the last question. I give great massages.

Awesome!

Is there any way to contact you?

Well, I have no idea why you'd want to contact an old coot like me, but if you feel so inclined, just type this here graphic into your e-mail thingy and fire one off. I check my e-mail pretty often, so, no worries.
